According to reports from CNBC, Sam Zell has not only finalized a deal for the Chicago Cubs with the Ricketts family, but possibly also finalized a deal with a group led by Marc Utay. According to CNBC, the deal is for more than what Ricketts has offered for the team, but with less cash upfront. With Zell in bankruptcy proceedings it'll remain to be seen which deal the bankruptcy courts favor, more cash upfront or more money overall.
What does this mean for Cubs fans? Business as usual. It may delay the sale from being finalized for a little while, but everything that I said yesterday still applies.
